The revolutionary upheavals of the Arab Spring threaten to undo the Israeli-Arab peace treaties while unleashing the barely contained anti-Semitism in Arab and Islamic popular culture. Post-Tahrir Square Egypt is unraveling, beset by economic and political chaos. The Muslim Brotherhood president, the vile Mohamed Morsi, was caught on video ranting against Jews as “the sons of apes and pigs” with whom Egypt can never live in peace. He’s not alone in these sentiments.
Now to give Mr. Morsi his due, he did
speak at least part of the truth. Jews are the sons of apes; as are Christians;
as are Muslims; as are all human beings . . . even Mr. Morsi! Though, in all
honesty, I doubt that any self-respecting chimp would rush to claim Mr. Morsi
as a relative. But I digress.
