Anthony Weiner for Mayor. Video. AnthonyWeiner.com, May 21, 2013. On YouTube here and here.
Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former
congressman infamous for tweeting pictures of his you know what, is trying to
reinvent himself as a wholesome champion of the Jacksonian middle class. His
video draws on classic New York Jacksonian themes and imagery of hard working
strivers pulling themselves up by their bootstraps through education, public
service, and entrepreneurship. Most importantly, Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin is
shown by his side in the video supporting his candidacy for mayor. The message: if Huma can forgive her wayward
husband and give him a second chance then so can the people of New York. Of
course to see Weiner, a liberal progressive firebrand and elite protégé of
Senator Chuck Schumer, as a Jacksonian champion of the middle class is a bit of
a stretch.
