Egypt’s
transition is as contradictory and tempestuous as the current state of its
society, and tells us much about it. What is still lacking is a sense of
direction that could reassure both Egyptians and onlookers on where it is
heading. Instead, a whirlwind of reversals, about-faces, and false starts has
locked Egypt into a revolving cycle, if not a downward spiral.
